"If your feet are cold, put a hat on!"

This is just one of the many wisdoms of my grandma who always had a hat on in the winter, even indoors. Of course, a lot of that was because she was living on a pension and wouldn't put the fire on until after tea in the evening to save money. But it's good advice and I'm definitely following it at the moment as I'm sure that I've read somewhere that you DO lose a lot of heat from your head!  Other family wisdom I'm not so sure about....my Dad saying that "One underneath is worth two on top!" Not some kind of weird fetish (all you dirty minded readers out there can calm down) It was his advice about putting a blanket under the bottom sheet being better than putting two on top. Not sure this really works in modern day houses with divan beds...I think this was a throwback from his Army days sleeping on a camp bed or something? And am I following my Mum's advice about the benefits of layers in cold weather by wearing a vest? Sorry, readers, that's just TOO much information for a fashionista like me to share with anyone!

Anyone else got some favourite family sayings or helpful hints about keeping warm in this kind of weather?
