A47 Dangerous Road?

Following Briar Rose's question about whether people think that the A47 is a dangerous road, another person has died this week. A woman was killed after her Landrover collided with a Volvo Globetrotter on Wednesday.

The accident happened near to the junction at Broad End Road.

Should we blame the road or the drivers?

If a reckless driver crashes into and injured a sensible driver due to a combination of their driving mistakes and a feature of the road that contributed to the problem - it is no consolution to the injured sensible driver to say: "Driver error did it." Particularly if some simple measures could have mitigated the problem.

You can always make an argument about accidents being "driver error". After all, if drivers went everywhere at 2 MPH with a runner in front of the vehicle ringing a bell there'd probably never be any accidents at all. Except, maybe, running over the Bell Guy's ankles. The fact is that people do have to drive about and some people do make mistakes and a road which has a design flaw or error (like the A1101 Gypsy Lane Junction) will exacerbate the problem creating more accidents and more fatalities. A life without any risk is impossible, but if a road has a concentration of accidents in one place then that's usually a sign that something is wrong and that improvements will cut the accidents down or eliminate them entirely.

Dont you think that alot of accidents Stalkingtiger are driver error. I know that a small percentage could be mechnical, like brakes failing or having a puncture but i would say the majority are drivers not payng attention to the road and driving too fast.

also people don't slow for the junctions so this can cause problems as when you do pull out it can be hard to judge whether people are breaking the speed limit or not.

Mostly I'd say driver errors and dangerous driving are to blame.

I don't think the road is dangerous at all, if people stick to the recommended speed limit and don't undertake people or pull out in front of people.

I drove the road almost everyday when I went to college just after I passed my test and the only problem I had was people so far up my **** end if I'd have tapped the brakes they probably would have hit me.

I think the problem is people breaking the speed limit as the road is not tricky.
