Cambrideshire Police seized more than 100 cannabis plants with a potential street value of more than £40,000 following raids on Thursday, January 26.

The plants were discovered at a properties in Gadds Lane, near Wisbech, and in Throckenholt, near Wisbech.

At Gadds Lane, officers discovered 92 young plants in an outbuilding with a potential value, when mature, of £32,000.

In Throckenholt, 34 plants of varying maturity were discovered in a shed with a potential value of about £12,000.

A 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis at the Throckenholt address and taken into custody at King's Lynn.

The raids were part of a week of action in Fenland that has seen more than a dozen people arrested for offences including serious assaults, criminal damage, and threats to kill.

Detective Inspector Dave Murphy said: "Today's raids were part of the force's ongoing crackdown on people who produce and supply drugs.

"Four raids were carried out and only two resulted in plants being seized but it should be a warning to others that we will find them.

"The week of action has been very successful so far. We have deployed officers from 6am each day and have successfully tracked down suspects for a range of serious offences, particularly violence.

"Our efforts to track suspects down and bring them before the courts will then continue beyond this week as we aim to keep crime figures falling in the Fenland area."

Chief Inspector Mike Winters, Fenland Area Commander, said: "The work by officers today is an important part of tackling drugs and making the area a better place to live.

"Sometimes the production of cannabis can be trivialised, however, there are people making a lot of money out of it and it is often associated with other types of crime."
