Talking of Speed Bumps...
By Laura_Spodula | Thursday, September 16, 2010, 22:49
We have been talking so much about roads lately, you would think that we would be bored of it by now. First citizens are complaining of potholes because of the snow, then its the A1101 with its dangerous corners and death toll, the A47 and other dangerous junctions.. the list continues with petitions and protests.

I see on a social networking site that Wisbech citizens are not happy about the speed bumps that have now been removed from Clarkson Avenue of which the residents on the road apparently complained about.
People have commented on this site about not being happy with this change, saying that now drivers have room to speed however much they like because there is nothing now to stop them. Notably uninsured and untaxed drivers were blamed the most for speeding.
One person said "..if anything is causing cracks in houses down Clarkson Avenue its the trees.."
Is this correct? Do you believe that now these bumps have been removed that people will speed through these roads? Was it the right decision?

ReportAt the end of the day i couldnt ignore all of the reisdents complaints and when consulted it was made clear that traffic calming may never go in again and they were happy with that, they had said on a number of occasions they didnt want ANY humps/thumps/bumps of any kind

Report@Fibreshack - I can assure you that the residents of Clarkson Avenue were well aware that if they achieved removal of the speed thumps - they weren't going to be able to ask for them back in a hurry. They knew this and still wanted them removed. They really did have a lot of comprehensive evidence that these were the wrong solution for the location. They worked hard to prove their case - local authorities listened and then acted. This is a good thing. But one thing you quickly find in local politics - you really CAN'T please all the people all the time. So you've just got to try and find compromises and use common sense to assist you.
