Like Lemmings

It will come as no surprise to anybody that I am opposed to the idea of paid parking being rolled into our Fenland market towns.

As a self-proclaimed “tax cutting warrior” I am, on principle, opposed to new taxes, higher taxes, stealth taxes and excessive taxes of all types.  This is something I share with many Conservatives, actually.  Even most of them (you would think.)

Nevertheless, I’m not an anarchist.  Governments and councils do need to raise revenue and the services we want do need to be paid for.  Consequently, when a new tax or a tax increase is necessary – whether in the form of a direct tax, an indirect tax, a charge or a fee – I’ll try to consider it thoroughly.

But look – this is just plain wrong.  As an idea, particularly as an idea from a Conservative council.  If we opt into this civil parking fiasco there is no getting out later.  Once we say “yes”, it’s yes for good

Just another random and isolated idea to increase the purse of the council !!!!
I believe this idea is ridiculous if inforced in isolation to the bigger problems of the town centre in Wisbech....there is no shopping facilities or attractions to warrant people paying for parking in the town.
Improve the whole area and it may be worth while considering.
I think the local council are generally at a loss as to know what to do with the town centre....Major regeneration and outside investment is called for. We need to start attracting outside visitors and buisness with money to spend...the local people and economy is no longer viable on it`s own to sustain any growth....a few historical buildings and an annual rose fair do not cut it any longer.

When everyone starts parking on the Suburban roads around Wisbech town centre, (to avoid charges) who will monitor these redirected vehicles? Didn't Wisbech get rid of it's Traffic Wardens? How much will it cost to employ two new wardens?.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Also, those who want to drive will be tempted to 'nip to Lynn' as its only 15 mins up the road & has 5 times the choice. Another backward step, another nail in the coffin of the Wisbech Market Place...........................................................................................................................................................................will the out of town developments have paid parking? I don't think so.............. yet another way to kill Wisbech town Centre........ I'm beginning to think someone has bought a few properties in the town centre & they want to turn it into Private accomodation. Ridding all shopping from the town centre area will, along with the frequent burning of buildings make the place one massive housing development.

    Absolute madness!
