Home Is Where The Heart Is
Just lately I’m finding it hard to disagree with much of what Nick Clegg says as he plays his part in the coalition’s activities. It’s hard to deny that, as his confidence grows with the trappings of actual authority, his confidence and delivery improves.
A few weeks ago when Steve Barclay MP was kind enough to invite me to parliament for PMQs – I saw Nick Clegg filling in for David Cameron. The press had a few pops at him about his performance, but I (and others sitting around me) didn’t take the same view at all. With the exception (some might say) of declaring the Iraq War illegal (one man’s gaff is another’s rousing cry for justice, of course) he seemed to be frighteningly competent to me. Since then, to my mind, he’s improved with each appearance.
I have a grudging admiration for the man. He seems to lack the worst left-ish illusions that infest one wing of his party and is actually a genuine liberal (rather than a social democrat in a liberal hat.)

In response to my Crowd pleasing prejudice ??? lets take the case of the Clarkson arms pub and its futile attempt to turn itself into a lap dancing club this was thrown out due to a few local residents worrying about in no particular order an increase in rape and sexual offences ??? some objectors complained that the plan would have a detrimental effect on the use of the nearby park???, while another says it would affect the residents of a nearby care home.????? My favourite quote was it would attract undesirables???..Would this be the same undesirables?? who congregate outside Wisbech court house three times a week as they puff on the cannabis(hope it was not grown in march ) before taking their seats in the royal circle..these the same kind of undesirables who swig at cans of larger in St peters blind garden after visiting the probation office.which some genius thought would be ideally place by two of Wisbechs best tourist attractions...

ReportYou might be right, Fibreshack - although before I make any assumptions I do try to do a little research. But yes, the written word can be misleading. No doubt about that.

ReportSteve...I think...forums such as these are a breeding ground for `name calling and crowd-pleasing prejudice`....as they can be for information, differing opinions and bullying.....serious debate?????...not sure.......i think something gets lost from the intentions at the keyboard to the screen..........possibly the visual semiotics of conversation and argument...........so we appear to descend into `name calling and crowd-pleasing prejudice` and actually achieve very little but possilble unfair assumptions about people.

ReportI really dont like it when people get personally, it is pointless and doesnt achieve anything,
Bubble Boy - if you dont know people personally you shouldnt make assumptions
