What Wisbech Roads Would You Change?/ Are Speed Cameras Dangerous?

We
have heard a lot in the local press about dangerous driving, accidents and
fatalities recently and now if we look at the front page of the Citizen this
week it appears it is the fault of the roads now and not the drivers. Personally I feel that any road is only as
dangerous as the driver. There have been various junctions and rurul roads
brought up for debate about drivers speeding through them, not thinking, but
what use is the erecting of speed signs really going to make? According to a
report found at speedcamera.org speeding is last on the list of reasons why
people have accidents, less than 4% in a Department of Transport report found
on SpeedCamera.org.
One
step further from normal speed limit signs we have those electronic ones that
tell you when you are going too fast, drivers knowingly in excess of the speed
limit could easily ignore these. Then we have the speed camera. The speed
camera is on our roads for our own safety, set up in spots where there are
higher accident rates. What is your opinion of the speed camera? I have done a
little bit of research and have discovered that since 1993 placements of speed
cameras have soared which has completely obliterated the downward trend of road
deaths in this country. According to the Association of British Drivers Press
Release in Oct 2003 there had been in those 10 years 5500 extra fatalities on
the road than there would have been and it is the fault of the speed camera
because that is when they had started to be strongly enforced.
So
what would you do to change Wisbech’s Roads? Do you think more Speed Cameras are the
way forward? As slower traffic is being suggested to cure road fatalities.

I think speed cameras do tend to make people slow down, but do they all work, that is the main thing. Having radios and cd players are another distraction in a car, talking on a mobile phone even by an ear piece is another. People may have these as a relaxtion but surely your concentration is taken away from the road and what your doing.Perhaps as well car makers shouldnt build the cars to go as fast when the speed limit on roads is to a maximum of 70mph.( i think lol. )
