Should People on Scooters be Driving on our Wisbech Roads?

Firstly I would like to say that it could be anywhere, not just Wisbech where the sight of a scooter on a road is occurring.
Now that the roads are free of ice and snow the sight of a scooter holding up traffic is going to happen much more frequently with the impending summer months. Having read about the complaint in the citizen about this very subject I would like to know what you think about this subject.
I am aware that people with less mobility need a way to get around and I would never want to take that away from them but should they be slowing us down to a snail's pace on our roads?
The scooters themselves do not go through the vigorous safety checks and certificates that cars need to keep them safe on the roads and the owners of these scooters do not need road tax. As well as this I read that the person complaining pointed out that in her case, they had no indicators, mirrors or lights. If this was a car there would certainly be police involvement.
What are your thoughts and experiences?

There is an elderly gentelman who i think lives Leverington way rides his mobilty scooter on the main road and even around Freedom roundabout! Now i have nothing against mobility scooters my own sister would be house bound with out hers but she does not ride it on roads, and allways uses crossings. I can see a tradgedy happening soon.

ReportI think they are dangerous, they are obviously not meant to be on the road, just because they have wheels does not mean they have to be on the road. Although having said this about insurance and MOT and all of that, cyclists have to be on the road and they dont have mirrors or insurance to worry about, they also do not have to pay road tax. They do have to have lights for when it is dark but there are not any real regulations for this.

ReportI have read the article to about motorised scooters and have on several occasions seen one along the Leverington Road.I think this road is very dangerous anyway let alone have a motorised scooter using it,its not if there isnt a path that it could go on.The police soon clamp down on us motorists that dont have proper tax, insurance etc and if our vehicle is roadworthy so why are they allowed to use the road.Dont get me wrong,i think people that have one must need one and its a means of allowing them mobility, but please use it where its safe for them to do so.
