It looks such a mess and then not too far up is that garage that was burnt to the ground. What are they going to do with that?

Wisbech will soon boast a 20 million retail and leisure park kitted out with the UK's first all-digital multiplex.Work is to start in the next few months on a new development on the site of a former stock car racing track – and it will have a grand opening next autumn.

The centrepiece of the Cromwell Retail Park will be a six-screen digital cinema – equipped with technology to beam major sporting and music events into the complex.

The site has already been cleared and building work is expected to start in September. It will take 12 months to complete.

    -------------------------------------

Up to 200 full and part-time jobs will be created when the facility, which will include a string of shops and restaurants, opens.

Development director for Cromwell Retail Park Limited Jonathan Clogg said he was delighted with the news.

He said: "This is a hugely exciting time for our project as we buck the trend and soak up the available leisure and retail spending for this area of East Anglia."

Mr Clogg said the multiplex had been let to The Light Cinema as a key anchor tenant.

The cinema will allow for up to 15 to 20 films to be shown a week.

He said: "The Light Cinema concept will ensure the park outperforms in demographic and trading terms, attracting people from far outside its natural catchment due to this ground-breaking digital concept."

He said Cromwell Retail Park would be one of the largest retail and leisure developments to start to take shape this year, providing 151,000 sq ft of mixed-use retail and leisure development.

The Light Cinema's Keith Pullinger said: "The scheme provides an excellent location for our first digital cinema in the UK.

"This is a ground-breaking time for the cinema industry and the digital concept we will be delivering is the future and the first of many cinemas that we will be opening over the next few years."

Companies signed up for space at the new park include Next, New Look, Pets at Home, Brantano, Home Bargains, Wickes as well as The Light Cinema.

Mr Clogg added: ""We have more retailers considering the scheme than we have units available and all of these parties are significant national retailers.

"We are going to be selective with the tenants we sign to deliver a sustainable retail park that builds on the strength of the excellent tenants we have already secured."

Cromwell park i don't think that will ever happen edna.........i am going to hazard a guess its proximity to the river could be the reason the insurance ..that or tesco has been flexing its muscles again seemed to pretty much do what they want around there......As for my question,i spoke to a old chap working on the site today and asked him what was going there and he said DOG RUNS.i don't know if he was pulling my leg seems a crazy place to keep dogs next to a busy road and close to a residential area..

Hope your question is answered alot quicker than mine.I have been asking about the site down Cromwell Road where we were suppose to have a state of the art cinema and several retail shops, that seems to have been put on the back burner , havent heard a thing for ages about that. So not sure if its still going ahead or not.
