The A47 is not a dangerous road,Many times drivers have overtaken 3/4 cars in one go while I have been doing 60mph,and witnessed this myself.I use the road everyday.During the day the average speed is around 45/50mph because of the lorries and queues.Last night I had 2 people infront of me,one tailgating the other,but the one in front doing 40mph in a 60mph zone,I consider this dangerous driving due to the slowness,and causing a backlog of traffic.Now days being slow on the road is considered dangerous,and if you don't get up to speed on your driving test they will fail you.
Bonoman99 you're right and also very wrong! The A47 isn't a dangerous road - there's just 250 metres where so many people have been killed it's regarded as the worst blackspot in Cambridgeshire and probably the worst in the country. There's a combination of reasons (apart from bad driving!). All the deaths and serious injuries in this one spot has cost us all ££millions. My idea would be to put a 30mph speed limit on this stretch of road(where the blackspot is) and traffic calming put in place on either side,instead of speed humps.These do work and have seen them in places where accidents were high,and it solved the problem.The cars would each have to give way once on either side,with 2 sets planted each side.It's just an idea,but I am also not sure how busy this road is,not been on this myself.
@Ginny - that's the A1101, not the A47.
@Bonoman - The section of the A1101 has had expensive improvements. We couldn't convince them to give us the lower speed limit (though we sure as hell tried!) but we have had a lot of work done. It's early days yet to say if it has worked or not.
