"Are locals friendly" - like most places, locals vary and it rather depends on how people behave towards them. But generally the area is friendly and down-to-Earth. I certainly love living here. The College does, I believe, do English as a foreign language courses. You'd need to check their website for precise info. The main catchment school for your 14-year-old is Thomas Clarkson, which is apparently improving well and back on track after some challenging times. There's also the local Grammar School, which has a good record. And a local group are trying to start a new "Free School" for the area too! Nightlife is a little limited, but there's always things to do. There's a BRILLIANT little cinema, for instance, some fun pubs and some nice places to eat. Wisbech has some wonderful architecture and is steeped in history. You can pick up some truly wonderful houses for very reasonable prices. it's not perfect, but nowhere is. In my opinion it is a great town, is very much "on the up" and now would be an excellent time to invest in a home here. I truly believe it is the area for us and we are friendly so hopefully all will be well..
My kids currently get up at 6 and do not get in until 7pm so are used to long days and so it will be like a holiday in UK to them, they both are well spoken and friendly and should fit in and find a job...
Thanks again and hopefully be in Wisbech soon ....

Hi,
I like Wisbech - I haven't been here long - but I do like it. The town is interesting, not bland and uniform like a lot of small towns in the UK. People in the shops are friendly, some of the neighbours welcoming, some less so.
I think your husband should do well as a plasterer/plumber/electrician/handyman - A lot of locals are advertising these services but of the three roofers we phoned for quotes only one called back (and did the job beautifully), and the three heating people we've contacted haven't returned our calls either. Either they're all rushed off their feet or there's a very large gap in the market for a tradesman who follows up phone messages!
Some sort of dog related services, kennels etc could be feasible but please don't be tempted to breed dogs or any sort. I looked on gumtree this morning and there are dozens of dogs in Cambridgeshire, many pedigrees, just being given away because their owners can't keep them any more. And that's not counting the ones already in rescues and pounds. The last thing the world (and the dogs already in it) needs is another dog breeder ;)
The nightlife in Wisbech doesn't seem to be the most sophisticated - there's a really lovely independent cinema and a newish restaurant that looks interesting behind Peckover House but I don't know if there is much to interest teenagers. I could be wrong. Peterborough and Cambridge are fairly nearby so more scope there I'd imagine.
Good luck with the house hunting!
