Is Wisbech Ready for the Big Freeze?

With the dire predictions of the worst winter in living memory with regard to snow & ice & remembering last year I think it's justified to ask whether the council is ready this year.

In September the Standard reported that the council had leased six new £100,000 gritters to add to the 33 already in operation.  Alongside this 10,000 tonnes of salt are said to be stockpiled at depots over the county & that there is a workforce of over 100 drivers to carry out the gritting.

I would be very interested to see a breakdown of how evenly those supplies are distributed as I would argue that Fenland probably needs a larger percentage than other areas due to a unique feature in it's makeup, largely the dikes & gotes.

Elsewhere a lack of salt on the roads generally manifests itself low speed collisions, people sliding into hedges & a general inability/excuse not to go to work.  But here in Fenland it all too often involves people sliding into bodies of water that line many, many of our roads & results in a high number of casualties.  Surely more priority should be given to gritting areas where the risk of death & injury is higherst.  But as the recent expose on the A1101 showed (see following article), these things just aren't taken into account or are hidden in masses of statistics.
