Police have launched a murder investigation after an elderly woman was found dead in her Wisbech home.

Una Crown, 86, was discovered in her bungalow in Magazine Lane shortly after 11am on Sunday January 13. Her death was initially treated as unexplained, however a post mortem examination carried out at Peterborough City Hospital on Tuesday confirmed she had died as a result of an assault

She had last been seen alive at 11am on Friday January 11.

Detective Chief Inspector Jon Hutchinson said: "Mrs Crown died as a result of a brutal assault in her own home. Our investigation is still at a very early stage and we are trying to build up a picture of the events that lead to her death.

"Her murder has obviously devastated her family and I would urge anyone with any information to call police. She was last seen on Friday morning so I am keen to hear from anyone who who was in the area of Magazine Lane over the weekend and saw anything suspicious.

"Any information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, could provide significant in our investigation."

Anyone with any information should call the Major Crime Unit on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
