Reported today in the Wisbech Standard, students at the College of West Anglia delivered a fantastic GCSE performance of 100% pass rate in grades A-C in English and 72% pass rate in Maths

Elsewhere in town, pupils from Wisbech Grammar School were delighted with their results with 100% passes at A-C in English AND Maths and Thomas Clarkson continued their improvement in performance of 20% more passes in English.

Nationally, over a quarter of exams were marked at grade A, delivering a record high and the Joint Council for Qualifications published data indicating that students are returning to 'employer-friendly' subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology and maths with fewer pupils taking geography and history.

The Guardian reported that the trend for girls to gain more of the high grades than boys has continued, although maths is still where the boys have taken the lead for the third year in a row.

For any students needing advice in what their results mean in terms of choices for their future, the BBC has opened a free helpline which will be open across this coming weekend to help and support you.
