Wisbech and the Fenland area celebrates one year to go until the 2012 Olympic Games this weekend by encouraging people to try something new as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad Open Weekend.

The largest cultural celebration in the history of the modern Olympic movement, the 2012 Cultural Olympiad is designed to give everyone in the country a chance to take part in the London 2012 Olympics, even those not interested in sport. It is hoped it will inspire creativity across all forms of culture, especially among young people. Fenland is playing its part by asking people to try out a new activity.

Events in the Wisbech area include celebrations at Woodhouse Park Farm, Friday Bridge, on Saturday July 23 (10.30am-4pm), giving visitors the chance to meet farm animals up close and also encounter many other exotic creatures. There is also the chance to join in the creation of a large mural and there will be many other activities, including dancing, music and drama.

Other events staged on Sunday July 24 include the Fenland Games in West End Park, March (10am-2pm) and a Roman Fun Day at the Skylark Garden Centre, near Manea (11am-4pm), where you can visit Stonea Roman Camp, discover more about Roman crafts, try out the Maize Maze and enjoy theatre, music and dance.
